A little while ago, I got to shoot from the rooftop of one of the new condominium towers in Downtown Toronto and it was awesome. Shooting from a tall building is always great, but having 360° unobstructed views of the city I live in was just perfect.
Luckily, I was able to pick the time. I aimed to be up there exactly around the sunset time, so I would get the last colors of the sunset in the sky and then the blue hour.
I started shooting towards the West, to get the nice colors in the sky. This part of the city is called the Entertainment District because that’s where all the theaters, restaurants, bars and clubs are. It’s now also becoming a residential neighborhood because condominium towers are being built everywhere.
Immediately to the South was the CN Tower. The only bad thing about this location might be that the CN tower is partially hidden behind the Ritz-Carlton tower. But you still get to see the lake and the island with the airport in the background.
When you look to the North, you can really see the urban jungle that stretches for kilometers. A lot of buildings are being built there as well, including some of the tallest in Toronto.
Finally, the highlight was the view over the financial district. I was close enough so I got an unobstructed view, but still far enough that I could get all of it in a single shot. It’s hard to beat that view!
