On my last trip to New York, I stumbled upon the recently completed Pavilion at Brookfield Place. Brookfield Place is the new name of the World Financial Center, which sits across the street from the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan,
Brookfield Place has undergone a large renovation and expansion, including a new Pavilion on West street, linking to the World Trade Center and its transit hub. Designed by Pelli Clark Pelli, the Pavilion is a beautiful lobby with two massive steel structures. The lobby receives a lot of light from the tall glass walls on the south, east, and north sides.
The intertwined beams provide a lot of photographic opportunities. I wanted to include the windows and the blue sky in the shots, to contrast with the white interiors:
I was also inspired by the abstract shapes of the beams and zoomed in to get a detail shot.
Here is a wider shot including the structures, the view, and the escalators to the transit hub.
