We spend a lot of time going after clients and asking them to give us money. With the holidays upon us, it’s time to take a break and give back to our clients.
After all, our businesses would not exist without clients. Christmas is a great time to be grateful to them for trusting us with their money. Giving back to your clients will further your relationship with them and make them hire you again.
So what can you do? At the very least, send them a holiday card. Handwriting the note on the card will make it more personal. I go a step further and I personalize each card: each client receives a card with their image on it.
You can also send them a gift along with the card. While the traditional gifts like chocolate and alcohol will always please, I try to go a step further with a photography-related gift that most people would not send. This year, my top clients will receive a beautiful calendar from Artifact Uprising with 12 of my photos. It’s a beautiful gift that they will probably keep on their desk for the next year.
Show them you’re grateful and they have your attention.
I would recommend not to sell at all when sending holiday cards and gifts to your clients. As I said, it’s a time to thank them and be grateful for their business. It’s not the time to tell them they get 20% off in January. Believe me, a little restraint will go a long way to show them you care about them.
I also send cards to potential clients that I’ve connected with during the year, even if they haven’t hired me. The holidays are a great excuse to keep in touch with them. Again, I’m not selling. I’m simply telling them I remember them and I want to stay in touch. No need for a brochure or a business card with the holiday greetings.
Again, sending cards and gifts to clients is a way to give back and build your relationship with them. Show them you’re grateful and they have your attention. Make them feel important and cared for.
