In 2012, I traveled across North America, driving from Seattle, WA to New York, NY for a month with my girlfriend. It was the trip of a lifetime and I needed a project to have a special souvenir. Because we would drive more than 5,000 miles, it made sense that my project would be about roads.
This is why I photographed roads during our entire trip, often stopping the car in uneasy situations to be able to get the shot I wanted. My girlfriend would get mad in some cases because I asked her to hit the breaks and stop as soon as possible. I usually stood right in the middle of the road to shoot, which was not always an easy task and it made my girlfriend even more mad. People looked at me wondering what I was doing. A couple even stopped near our car, thinking that our car had a problem. But I was just taking a photo…
This video is the result of this project, using about 40 images from different states and landscapes. This is what it’s like to drive across the US: the landscape is always changing, from mountain to fields, from deserts to metropolis, from canyons to lakes….
