While being in Los Angeles, I had to go to the Griffith Observatory to photograph the city from above. The views from the observatory are truly stunning, from Downtown Los Angeles to Century City. I planned my trip to be there at sunset, with the sun setting behind
I planned my trip to be there at sunset, with the sun setting behind Century City in the west. The smog helped make the shot:
I was then treated to some very nice colors above Downtown LA:
I moved to a vertical composition to include the houses below the Griffith Observatory, with Downtown LA in the background.
I wanted to capture the observatory as well as the city, so I chose a tight composition showing people looking at the city.
Blue hour on Downtown LA was just beautiful. Little tip: to remove some of the smog, I use the dehaze tool in Lightroom.
As you know if you’ve been following my blog, I have a running series of skyline panoramas. I couldn’t leave the Griffith observatory without at least a couple of them. I started with one at sunset and then decided to go wider for the blue hour one, to show the size of the city (click on the images to see large).
